Tracks Divided diptych; soil paint on paper; 110 x 150 cm
I had a residency in Southern Spain and I became completely fascinated by the soils and the degradation. I had expected that during winter the soils would be rich but they are thin and fragile and deeply ploughed. This makes them more susceptible to erosion, particularly in the sudden heavy downpours that form part of climate change. The furrows caused by the machinery were beautiful, at the same time as being scarred signs of a threatened landscape. I was obsessed by the patterning.
