Site-Specific Private Painting Commission, 76 in. diameter, Acrylic on canvas over panel w/ custom frame. ©2017-2021. Private Collection (Culver City, LA) This site-specific painting pays homage to everything from the ascendent feeling experienced when viewing a monumental Roman ceiling fresco to magic-realist visions of tropical ecosystems. Whether these flora & fauna are viewed as surrogates for baroque figures reaching toward the heavens, or taken as an entanglement of jungle life struggling for the sun, the composition centers around that which is most crucial to life on earth: light. Luminous references to the exotic flora & fauna of tropical jungles and rainforest - whose survival hangs in the balance amidst mass climate change and deforestation - are informed directly by the artist's many exotic travels and treks throughout Guatemala, Mexico, the Cape Verde Islands, & the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. All of these collage-like elements coalesce into one vibrant totality as if Nature has been filtered through the phantasmagorical lens of pop-culture - a complex, interconnected "web of life" signifying the vast digital ecosystem of our contemporary existence.
