Biography

Kimberly Garland (b. 1977) is an artist with a background in musical theater, social work and art modeling. She hails from Connecticut and has lived in NY, VT and North Carolina, where she was part of the Smart Kinston artist residences. As a former social worker & self-taught artist, Kim believes strongly in creating more just and equitable spaces for art & artists, and having a positive impact on the environment and community. Kim sees her sculptures as a way to address and explore issues related to the natural environment and global warming. She specifically explores this in terms of human relationships to their things (possessions and garbage). Kim's drawings are an organic processes expressing the magical, unreal & unnameable, and often connect to her journey through this world as a neurodivergent queer person with PTSD
